From MobiComp

MobiComp is a software support infrastructure for context-aware applications in smart environments. Its origins lie in the consolidation of work begun in the Mobile Computing in a Fieldwork Environment (MCFE) project at the University of Kent Computing Laboratory. MCFE focussed on developing context-aware tools for data collection and re-use in scientific fieldwork.

The current focus is on supporting extensibility and interoperability with other systems. Known internally as MobiComp2, this is a joint effort between members of the pervasive computing group at Kent and colleagues at ARCES, Università di Bologna. This work is partly aimed at supporting smart environments in museums and cultural heritage sites, and is supported by EPOCH, a European FP6 Network of Excellence.
