InteractiveSalon Development
From MobiComp
This page is intended for general working notes about the MobiComp/CIMAD contribution to the Interactive Salon. More formal documents are provided by the following pages:
- Smart Museums Sites and Landscapes
- Smart Environment Technologies
- Smart Environment Devices
- Smart Environment Scenarios
Exhibition Area
The exhibition area includes a narrow entrance hall, one large and three smaller rooms, see the Stadsmuseum site plan. Ideally, the MobiComp exhibit will be placed in the entrance hall or near the entrance to the large room so that equipment, 'tickets', etc., can be issued before people enter the main exhibit area. From here, visitors will need to pass through the area covered by the ARCES VTS system so that they complete their 'registration' with the system.
Networks
There will be three wired connections available. One will be used for a wifi base station provided by the organisers for general use by those exhibits that need an Internet connection. One will be connected to our server (a Mac mini). The other may be available for other uses.
Our server will also have both wifi and Bluetooth. The wifi will be used as the hub of an ad hoc network (self-assigned IP addresses) for use by all of our mobile wifi devices. The server can bridge its wifi and wired connection so the mobile devices will effectively have access to the Internet.
To enable wifi location at room level granularity, we may need to provide up to three additonal base stations. These can just act as beacons without being connected to the wired network in the museum.
Target Audiences
When tailoring content to the expected audiences, we need to be aware that the Interactive Salon aims to target the cultural heritage community, ICT-developers, researchers, media creators and visitors, and interdisciplinary collaboration between these groups.
